Where the journey definitely
meets your sexy destination
Where else in Santa Cruz do dancers
arrive on your doorstep, aerialists depart gravity in a sexy double
suicide, naughty theatre punch your e-ticket, acrobats transport you,
and songstresses upgrade you to a first-class seat? Absolutely nowhere else than The 418 Project in downtown Santa Cruz, Valentines Day Weekend, 2010.
"This show is getting a bit out of hand," confesses What is Erotic? senior director Laura Bishop. What started as an 'innocent' cabaret and fundraiser five years ago has become a full-blown explosion exploration of all things erotic. "In fact, this year, we couldn't even keep it in the country--the show took on an exotic, international flavor we'd never seen before. You know, the seduction of travel, the flavors of exotic breezes blowing across your skin, of foreign...tongues being whispered in your ear..."
This year's line-up includes
the sexy acrobatics of Evan Adler, Caro Clarke and Eli Weinberg, hot
burlesque of Parker Mozee-Baum, steamy dance choreographed by
Cabrillo's Leslie Johnson, smoking spoken word by Lex, vintage bistro
song (think Edith Piaf) of Flow Le Sur, and live musical soundscape by
Junkyard Gamelan with Dr. Now and Brent Crosson.
What Is Erotic? invites
performance artists of all genres--burlesque theatre practitioners,
aerial dancers, spoken word artists and singers, to name just a few--to
show up and testify...What IS Erotic? Each artist develops performance art that answers the question. The
result is a show that will send you and your Valentine straight to the
nearest embassy to get your passport stamped for departure to luscious
lands.
This year's show includes The
Erotic Bazaar, a chance for the audience to interact with performers
pre-show by wandering in an imaginary land where 'your erotic dreams
can be realized...' Guests
can confess their deepest fantasies to a sex therapist, have a love
letter typed on a vintage typewriter and delivered by a sexy postman or
girl, buy What Is Erotic? lingerie for themselves or their sweetie, and
indulge as cast members wander by with sensual treats of all sorts. Join the raffle and get a love song performed for your lover as part of the show or win other titillating prizes. Sniff exotic spices or have poetry whispered in your ear. You may even get a lap dance. Some of these treats are gratis, some come with a price tag. And all of it benefits The 418 Project.
